Although lollipop update was not so delicious to some of the users as the update caused faster battery drain. With this guide you will be able to at least increase the battery life upto 50% or more easily, need to just follow instructions as guided below.
- Factory reset – A factory reset may solve your battery drain issue as it removes any residual files left after updating and it solved the problem for most of the users. You can take up back up and do a factory reset.
- Battery History – Since most of the apps are still not optimized for Android lollipop some apps may misbehave so you can remove those apps that are consuming more battery by looking up in the battery usage from settings. You can search play store and download CPU Z for android or any other app and see which apps are consuming more resources and remove them if not required.
- Hotword – Turn off “OK Google” HotWord Detection – Turning off Google now’s hotword detection can improve your battery life, since it prevents the device from consuming more battery by always listening for you to say “OK Google”
- Inbuilt Battery Saver – Enable the inbuilt battery saving features when your phone is below 30%. If you are running out of battery you can get extra time by enabling Android’s new battery saving feature.Google claims that this feature will extend the battery life by 90 minutes. You can put the phone in battery saver mode by going into settings when you are left with 25-30% battery. To enable the battery saver go to settings, tap on battery, and then enter into menu then select Battery saver.
- Wifi Settings – Turn off Wifi – Goto WiFi – ADVANCED : Turn off “Notify when network available” – Change “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” to never essentially it should be off unless until you are using Wifi.
- Display Settings – It is the biggest battery hog irrespective of OS – Set your new, preferably black wallpaper as Home & Lockscreen. Turn Brightness to minimum and auto off. I set timeout to 30 seconds on mine. You can use the auto brightness feature but better use the manual and set brightness to 30% to extend battery life.
- Sounds and Vibrations : Turn vibration level sliders to minimum or Off. Turn off “lockscreen sounds” , “haptic feedback” & “key press sounds” these require a tiny motor to rotate to create the vibration effect which eats up battery, I usually keep them off. Turn off all keyboard sound and vibrations off.
- Motion : Everything should be off they are big drainer due to sensor battery consumption.
- Location and Maps : Make sure your maps and other Apps are not using your location as this is the biggest drainer of all GPS trying to triangulate your position can eat up battery as fast as playing games on the smartphone. Switch off location and
- Data Usage – Keep data usage off in case you are not using it as the background processes keep using the data and draining battery.
- Accounts Setting – If you are using various accounts like Google drive, email – gmail, office email etc, Dropbox etc Accounts Sync state to off or manual or set to 4 hours or more.
- Apps Settings – Apps like Facebook, Google+ and twitter, turn off syncs & notifications otherwise just bookmark the site and use them from site instead of using the App. Also use the apps which you are frequently using. Remove the Apps which you use in once a week. More Apps lead to more open processes and more battery consumption.
- Auto Rotate can be turned off to save a little more juice.
- Network – Choose 2G network in case you are not using the data, 3G and 4G networks eat up more battery life due to signal strength issues as your smartphone continuously hunt for a strong signal.
If your smartphone has root access than you can use Greenify App and Better battery stats to improve the battery life even further. Though what I have mentioned above is more than enough to at least stretch your battery life by 50% or more.
If you have any tips which did wonders for you please share in comments.
Thanks.
